Aberdeen Zoo (CLOSED), Scotland
Originally opened in 1966 by the Aberdeen & North Of Scotland Zoological Society. It originally housed over 200 mammals and 400 birds, including wildcats and pumas. Although there is still an animal collection there, it has been drastically scaled down until it is little more than a petting zoo.
Intriguingly an alternative opening date of 1962 ( Geoffrey Schomberg ) is also suggested. Closed 1977 (Anthony Smith). This information with kind permission of www.zoohistory.co.uk .

Intriguingly two other opening dates are also suggested: -
Geoffrey Schomberg suggests 1962 and Clin Keeling 1965.
Clin Keeling acknowledges Dr. Lil de Kock as developing the concept. Once operational Mr. George Leslie became the collection manager.
Anthony Smith mentions 1977 as a closure date.
